Eid-el Fitr: “Live in Peace, Tolerate One Another”, Taraba Monarch Charges Residents

These were the words of the Lamdo Gashaka, Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo Mohammed Sambo shortly after observing this year’s Eid-el Fitr Sallah celebration in Serti, the administrative headquarters of Gashaka local government area of Taraba State.
The Eid-el Fitr Sallah celebration is usually celebrated after the observing of 29 rigorous days of Ramadan fast, a period when followers abstain from foods or drinks to seek the face and blessings of Allah.
Early Sunday morning, Muslim faithful converged on the Serti Eid praying ground in high spirits to appreciate Allah for his provisions, protection and guidance as well as to pray for the peace, unity and development of Taraba State.
The arrival of the paramount ruler, the Lamdo Gashaka, Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo Mohammed Sambo and his entourage, signaled the commencement of the annual spiritual exercise led by the Chief Imam of Serti Central Mosque, Sheikh Usman Mohammed Gashaka.
Delivering a sermon shortly after the prayers, the Chief Imam commended the Muslim faithful for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, charging them to use the lessons learned during the fasting for their spiritual growth to prepare them for the heavenly journey.
He encouraged the congregation on the virtues of alms giving especially at this period, calling on them to show love and care to the vulnerable and the less privileged in the society to obtain Allah’s blessings.
Shortly after the Eid prayers, the Lamdo of Gashaka, Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo Mohammed Sambo was ushered into the town, where he acknowledged pleasantries from people who lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of the colourful royal rites.
At the palace, interest groups, district and village heads, paid homage to the Lamdo, wishing him long life, God’s guidance and good health.
Addressing the people, the Lamdo Gashaka, Dr Zubairu Hammangabdo Mohammed Sambo who was full of appreciation for the peace and tranquility prevailing in the area, tasked the people take the advantage and engage in farming activities to improve their livelihoods and tackle the present economic reality.
The royal father lauded the Taraba State Governo, Dr Agbu Kefas for adopting proactive measures which he said have improved the security architecture of the state.
He called on the people of the area and the state to ensure they create an enabling environment for peace to thrive to enable leaders to work for the development of the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Gashaka Local Government Area, Hon Umar Yusuf Alura Gari, congratulated the Muslim faithful for witnessing this year’s Eid-el Fitr Sallah celebration, tasking them to ensure they obey constituted authorities and respect one another, irrespective of religious beliefs, ethnicity or political affiliation.
He warned that the Local Government Council will not take it lightly with illegal miners as well as those fomenting trouble in the area especially criminals.
Some prominent sons and daughters of the area interviewed, expressed gratitude to Allah for good health, bumper harvest and for keeping them alive to be part of this year’s Eid-el Fitr Sallah celebration.
The Sallah celebration continued Tuesday with visits to loved ones, friends and relatives under peaceful and friendly atmosphere.
