Yobe: SIEC Fixes 6th June For Local Government Council Election

The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) has scheduled 6th June, 2026 for the Local Government Election.
This was disclosed by the Permanent Member one of the Commission, Alhaji Muhammad Grema Nguru, on Wednesday at the conference hall of the Commission during the stakeholders meeting attended by the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Yobe State Chapter and Security Chiefs.
He announced that, the Governor of Yobe State, Hon Mai Mala Buni has given approval to the commission to conduct election for the 17 Chairmen and Councillors of the Local Government Councils in State on 6th June, 2026.
“The Commission has finalised arrangements to issue Election guidelines to all political parties, these guidelines will clearly outline procedures, timetable and requirements, and comply fully to ensure a smooth and orderly Electoral process”.
Grema added that, the State Independent Electoral Commission will therefore take responsibility to undertake, organise and supervises the Local Government Council Election, which shall be free, fair, credible and peaceful.
Therefore, he solicited for cooperation and support to ensure the success of the exercise.
“All Yobians are eligible to contest for Councillorship, and the Chairmanship after attending the age of 25 and 30 without gender bias, sane, not bankrupt, and resident in the local community, and with a minimal educational standard of school certificate or equivalent and must undergo security screening, a fee of N300,000, N250,000, N200,000 for Chairman, Vice chairman and Councillors respectively to be paid and obtained the form”.
In his vote of thanks, the chairman, Inter Party Advisory Council, Umar Muhammad Jajere, said, they are ready to follow all the election guidelines and procedures.
