Yobe MCRP Hands Over Water Supply Facilities to RUWASA
– As Commissioner, Project Coordinator Urge Communities To Take Ownership of New Facilities

The Yobe State Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Usman Ahmed, has commended the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP) for its role in addressing water supply and distribution challenges in the state.

Speaking at the official handover of water treatment and distribution facilities to the Yobe State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), the commissioner, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mal. Garba Hassan, expressed gratitude for the initiative.
Engr. Usman Ahmed assured that the multi-million-naira water infrastructure would be effectively utilized to sustain the supply of potable water to households, schools, markets, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities across the state.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of MCRP, Idi Musa Jidawa, acknowledged the support of Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, in enabling the successful completion of various water projects in the state.
Jidawa emphasized that the handover of the water facilities was aimed at enhancing potable water supply in Damaturu and its surrounding communities.
“The transfer of Damaturu’s water infrastructure to RUWASA is a crucial step in tackling water contamination problems in communities such as Maisandari and Sabon Pegi.
“MCRP has significantly contributed to the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector by rehabilitating and upgrading motorized infrastructure, including boreholes, hand pumps, and VIP latrines across the state,” he stated.
Jidawa lamented the prolonged deterioration of water facilities over the past two decades, which has placed immense strain on the limited infrastructure due to the massive influx of internally displaced persons (IDPs) caused by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Among the facilities handed over are hybrid boreholes for healthcare centers, schools, abattoirs, and key markets in Damaturu and its environs.
Jidawa urged stakeholders in both the public and private sectors to take ownership of these water facilities by embracing a culture of maintenance and ensuring protection against vandalism.
