WUKARI TRADITIONAL COUNCIL CLARIFIES MISINTERPRETATION OF GOVERNOR AGBU KEFAS’ ‘I’M A REAL JUKUN’ REMARKS, REAFFIRMS UNITY

The Wukari Traditional Council has addressed a social media post circulating on Facebook regarding a comment attributed to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, in which he stated, “I am a Real Jukun.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Council clarified that the Governor’s remark had been misinterpreted and deliberately distorted to create division among the Jukun people both within and outside Taraba State.
Ordinarily, the Council noted, it would not have considered it necessary to respond, as the Governor has official spokespersons and established communication channels.
However, the Palace deemed it appropriate to intervene because the meeting in question was convened by the Palace itself and because of the growing reactions and concerns generated by the social media post.
The Council explained that on Thursday, February 5, 2026, the Wukari community, led by His Majesty Ishaku Adda Ali Matakhitswen, the Aku Uka, paid a solidarity visit to Governor Kefas at TY Danjuma House in Jalingo. During the visit, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to fairness, integrity, and inclusive governance in serving the people of Taraba State.
According to the statement, certain individuals have misrepresented the Governor’s “Real Jukun” comment to suggest he was claiming to be the only authentic Jukun while portraying others as inferior. The Council described this narrative as false, unfounded, and calculated to sow discord for personal or political gain.
Providing context to the Governor’s remarks, the Council emphasized that:
The Governor’s reference to being a “true Jukun man” was directed specifically to his kinsmen and did not target or compare any other ethnic group.
His statement was meant to highlight the moral values traditionally associated with the Jukun people, including honesty, integrity, loyalty, and truthfulness, particularly in response to allegations that had been made against him.
The Council likened the situation to an individual affirming their faith and moral standing in the face of false accusations, noting that such a declaration does not imply superiority over others but rather a commitment to shared values.
It further stressed that taking statements out of context and isolating fragments of a speech can lead to misunderstanding and strained relationships.
The Council urged members of the community not to allow external forces to exploit the situation for political purposes.
Reaffirming its commitment to unity, the Wukari Traditional Council called on the public to disregard what it described as a baseless smear campaign and to continue supporting the administration in the collective pursuit of progress for Taraba State.
