WHO donates cholera life-saving kits to Borno Govt

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated Cholera and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) kits commodities to Borno State flood emergency to flood-affected victims to avert and control a major cholera outbreak in the state.
The donation was presented by Dr. Mary Brantuo, Officer in Charge, representing the WHO Country Representative, Dr. Walter Kazadi Molumbo in Maiduguri on Saturday.
According to her, the donation includes five cholera kits, 14 SAM kits, and other medical supplies to strengthen the state’s capacity to respond effectively to the flood emergency.
Dr. Molumbo said, “Today, we are here to commiserate with the government and the people of Borno State who were affected by the devastating flood. The flood has wreaked havoc, displacing thousands and submerging homes, schools, and hospitals. The situation is urgent and requires our immediate attention.”
The WHO Country Representative also stated that the cholera kits will be essential in preventing and controlling potential outbreaks, while the SAM kits will help frontline health workers combat malnutrition among children, giving them a fighting chance for a healthy future.
Each cholera kit according to him has the potential to treat up to 100 cholera patients, and the 14 SAM kits will provide essential therapeutic supplies to treat children facing acute malnutrition.
He thanked the Governor and Borno State Government for their unwavering support and dedication to improving healthcare services.
He also appreciated the donors and partners who made the donation possible and the WHO team and all healthcare professionals involved in the initiative for their hard work and commitment.
Dr. Molumbo, further called for continued collaboration to ensure no child is left behind, especially in hard-to-reach areas, and urged all stakeholders to work together to create a healthier and brighter future for the children of Borno State.
