WAFCON 2025: Taraba Sports Director applauds Super Falcons Coach, Madugu

The Director, Taraba State Sports Council, George Haruna Shitta has applauded the Nigeria Super Falcons’ Coach, Justin Madugu for leading the girls to victory against Morocco during the finals of the just concluded Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON), 2025.

Shitta who doubles as the Vice Chairman, Badminton Federation of Nigeria, spoke exclusively with our Correspondent in Jalingo, saying Coach Badugu whom he described as local a content, contributed to the performances of the Super Falcons’ victory.
The Director further noted that initially, Nigerians were not so optimistic about Madugu taking the girls to victory.
He emphasized that when Nigeria were to play Zambia, because according to him, the Zambian team had two dangerous players, making Nigerians not to believe in him.
“I am excited about their performances because it was a local coach that took them to victory”,
“I think Nigerians were saying that they were going to rate him (Badugu) after the match and what happened after the match? He kept everyone’s mouth shut why because, Nigeria defeated Zambia”, he said.

He also disclosed that Justin Madugu was a Coach of the Taraba United Football Club, Jalingo some times ago.
Commenting on the performances of the ladies further, Shitta said they were determined, having two goals down during the first 45 minutes, and during the second half, they equalized and finally won the trophy.
“I think they were inspired and over-ran the Morocco Babes to 3 – 2”, he added.
Shitta however, prayed that the local coaches be given opportunities and free hands to coach the National team, adding that the local coaches are talented and have all it will takes to deliver.
“Coaches must not be chosen from the National, it must not be from outside the country. I think we should give our local coaches the opportunities to handle Nigerian teams”, he added.
