UMCN Extends Condolences to Billiri Community over tragic incident.

The Bishop of the United Methodist Church Nigeria Episcopal Area, Bishop Ande Emmanuel, has extended condolences to the Billiri community over the lost of lives as a result of tragic accident by a heavy truck during the Easter celebration.

A statement signed by the Director, Communication, United Methodist Church, Rev. Filibus Bakari Auta, describe the incident as sympathetic.

The statement reads in parts,

“It is with deep sorrow that The United Methodist Church in Nigeria extends heartfelt condolences to the Christian community in Billiri, Gombe State, following the tragic incident that claimed lives of over ten Christians and left several others seriously injured.

“The unfortunate event occurred during the Easter celebration on April 21, 2025, as thousands of Christians were participating in a procession along the Gombe-Yola Road.

“A heavy-duty truck loaded with grains reportedly lost its brakes and rammed into the procession, resulting in a devastating loss of life and multiple injuries.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this heartbreaking tragedy. May their souls rest in perfect peace.

The statement wished those currently hospitalized a full and speedy recovery.

“Our prayers are with you for comfort, strength, and healing during this difficult time.

The statement called on the government and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident.

According to the statement, the circumstances surrounding the accident raise serious concerns, and demand accountability to ensure that justice is served and such tragedies are prevented in the future.

“As a church, we stand in solidarity with the Billiri Christian community. Let us unite in prayer and offer our support to the grieving families. May this Easter season, despite the sorrow, be a time of hope, healing, and renewed faith – the statement concluded.
