Ucha-Sub Clan passes vote of no confidence on Taraba Tiv Leader, calls for his removal, replacement

The Ucha-Sub Clan of Ukum, Tiv extraction of Taraba State have unanimously passed vote of no confidence on the President of Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA) Chief James Chihi Baka and called for his removal and immediate replacement with Mr. Joseph Tsavlaha.

This was contained in a Press Statement signed and made available to Journalists in Jalingo the Taraba State Capital by Baba Kyamande, Elder Emberga and Elder Orbuter Mom.

“In the meeting held on the 15th of March, 2025, the Ucha-Sub Clan of the Ukum, Tiv extraction of Taraba State unanimously resolved and passed vote of no confidence on Chief James Chihi Baka and is consequently recalled as the President General of Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TSCA).

“Following his recall, Mr. Joseph Tsavlaha of the same Clan was selected to serve as the Substantive President of TSCA.

“It is worthy to note that Mr. James Chihi Baka who is from the Ucha – Sub Clan, became the President of TCSA on the premise of the Tiv Sacred Principle of sharing (Ya na Angbian) which favored the Ucha –Sub Clan of Ukum. This implies that, the same vehicle that conveyed him to, can still take him fro,” the Statement reads in parts.

According to the Statement, the following reasons amounted to Baka’s recall; His inability and inconsistency in handling the issue of Queen (s) (Kumashe) of the State and Local Governments that led to multiple litigations and hostilities among the Tiv people of the State, Flagrant disobedience of Court Orders, an offence not just against the Judiciary but also the State which goes to portraying Tiv as people who have no respect for Constituted Authorities, the setting up of a 27 Elders Statesmen Committee which 24 are from the Ipusu thus, breaching the practice of balance in the Tiv Tradition, His inability to resolve the Tiv Chieftaincy tussles in Wukari and Ibi LGA of Taraba State.

Other reasons include; creating a Leadership problem of TSCA between Shitile and Ugondo in Donga LGA of the State, Worsening the Chieftaincy problem between Zaki Zungwenen Avue Daga and Solomon Agaku of Gangumi, Gashaka LGA, Creating Leadership problem between Ukum and Shitile in Bantaje Ward of Wukari LGA among other reasons.

The Statement however noted further that, anyone who is against the recall/replacement decision is equally against the peace initiative of the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas as well as the collective progress of the Tiv people of the State.

However, at the time of filing this report, the President of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association, TCSA Chief James Baka could not be reached to hear his comments on the allegations against him.
