TY Danjuma tasks Taraba FMC mgt on Morgue facility

Former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) has tasked the management and staff of the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Taraba State on the maintenance of the multi million Naira Mortuary facility he donated to the Hospital.
The retired general who said the need to maintain the facility is imperative, considering what he described as high standard equipments that are contained in the Morgue he donated to the Hospital.
Danjuma spoke yesterday at the occasion of official commissioning/handing over of a newly constructed Mortuary he built through his foundation and donated to the management of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Jalingo.
“We have here, the very best equipment in this Morgue which will last for a long time and for it to last for a long time, it must be maintained”,
He expressed worry that equipments meant to serve the people better were allowed to waste describing it as a result of lack of maintenance culture found in the lives of Nigerians.
“We in Nigeria have a poor maintainance culture including the Federal Government.” He added.
The elders’ statesman however called on the Chief Medical Director, FMC, Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu to properly maintain the facility to serve the Hospital and better.
Harping on the reason that inspired him to donate the morgue to the hospital, the retired General stated that his personal lawyer had returned to him with a pathetic story of how dead bodies were mal-handled in a mortuary where the body of his late mother was deposited.
“On his return a few days later, he came to see her body in the Mortuary and the state in which it was, was very horrible.
“He told me that the decomposed bodies in the mortuary were abandoned. Those that died through accident and were left in a horrible situation.
“He was horrified and he came to me pleading about it. The story touched me and I engaged a contractor to bring to me a design and the estimate”. He stressed
In a remark, the CMD, FMC, Jalingo Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu appreciated the gesture of the Foundation, describing it as a significant milestone in the health care system of the State.
While looking forward for a good working relationship with the foundation, Dr. Adamu added that the structure is a testimony for the people of the State.
Our Correspondent reports that the mortuary donated by General Danjuma was well equipped with modern day equipments and was later commissioned by the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.
