Tuberculosis: Enlighten Public On Dangers, PHCDA Charges Traditional, Religious Leaders

Traditional and religious leaders have been advised to assist government in enlightening the public on the danger of tuberculosis especially among children.
The Chairman Bauchi State Primary health care Board, Dr Rilwanu Muhammad gave the challenges at a meeting with Breakthrough State base committee in Bauchi.
Dr Rilwanu Said the fight against tuberculosis faces several challenges, including low community awareness especially of early signs and symptoms, low childhood TB case finding and notification, and limited private sector participation in TB treatment centers.
He advised them to embrace new technologies and create increased involvement of the private sector in TB control programmes and offer promising avenues to address the gaps and strengthen the global response to this persistent health threat.
In his presentation, Director Tuberculosis and Leprosy control BACATMA Dr Yakubu Gida Said Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health concern worldwide, with devastating consequences for individuals, communities, and healthcare systems.
According to him, the infectious disease, primarily affect the lungs, and continues to pose a significant challenge in the fight against global health crises.
On rate of the disease, Dr Gida says Tuberculosis is a relentless killer, with an estimated 18 people dying every minute due to the disease.
Children are particularly vulnerable, not only to lung-based TB but also to other forms of the disease that can affect various parts of the body.
