TSIEC Schedules LG Polls for Nov. 15, 2025 in Taraba

The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) has scheduled local government Council elections in the State for November 15, 2025.

The Executive Chairman TSIEC, in the State, Dr. (Chief) Philip Duwe stated this during a stakeholders meeting held Wednesday at the conference hall of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) along Donga road, Jalingo.
The occasion with the theme, “Declaration/Notice of 2025 local government Council elections”, Chief Duwe who, explained that 2025 is election year for the 16 local government council chairmen and their councillors, revealed that their tenures will expire in November, 2025.
Addressing the chairmen and representatives of various political parties, the media and civil society organizations at the occasion, Duwe explained that there are legal backgrounds that determine declaration or giving a notice of local government elections.
According to him, the State House of Assembly law No. 6 of the year 2002 says that the two years’ tenure of the local government expires on such a date.
He added that the Commission is working towards not waiting up to the expiration date but preparing to ensure that when the local government tenure expires, another local government comes in.
Describing it as the only way to get stability in governance, Chief Duwe added, “Government will have no reason to put any Caretaker”,
“Our own responsibility and core function of TSIEC is to plan, organize and conduct elections and we have four values namely; independent, neutrality, inclusivity and credibility”,
TSIEC boss further enjoined the political parties to prepare their candidates, who according to him will contest under their platforms during the election.
Pledging further that the election would be credible, transparent, free and fair, Duwe noted that whosoever wins, stands the winner despite his or her political party.
He also announced that forms for the post of chairmanship positions would be purchased at one million Naira (N1m), Vice Chairmanship – Five Hundred thousand Naira (N500,00.00); Councillors – One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N150,000.00); Women – Seventy five thousand Naira (N75,000.00) while people living with Disabilities are free.
Duwe said while the results for chairmen would emerge at their local government areas, that of the
councillors would emerge at their various electoral wards
In a remark, the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the State, Barrister Ibrahim Tukur El-sudi warned various political parties to be careful so as not to mess up the entire process.
Speaking on the roles of political parties, Bar. El-sudi advised that they as leaders, members and supporters of political parties should ensure that people vote candidates of their choice.
He implored on TSIEC to fashion out reforms in the law so that it goes in tandem with what is happening in the country.
APC chairman disclosed that the constitution provides that there should be a democratically elected local government and that a law shall be provided by the House of Assembly, saying Taraba State has done its best.
“I want to implore you to strictly follow the provisions of TSIEC law, 2002 particularly sections 15, 21 and 24 which he posited specified that elections shall be conducted thirty (30) days before the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent”
“I heard the TSIEC chairman mentioned 90 days, if there are amendments please avail parties”, he added.
