Tiv Supreme Council frowns at the lingering Jukun/Tiv crisis, calls for dialogue, resettlement of IDPs

The Tiv Traditional Leaders’ Supreme Council, Taraba State has frowned at the lingering Jukun/Tiv crisis especially in the Southern part of Taraba State which has destroyed lives and properties, displacing thousands of people who are currently taking refuge in IDP Camps in Benue, Nassarawa, Plateau and some other parts of Taraba State.
In a Communique signed by the Chairman of the Council, Chief Dr.David Gbaa Tela JP and issued by its Secretary, Zaki Targema Ukange at the end of a three-day Traditional Leadership training workshop held in Bali Local Government Area, the Council unanimously called on their Jukun brothers to open up for dialogue to find a common ground for lasting peace and resettlement of the Internally Displaced Persons.
The Council, emphasized the need for relative peace between the two waring tribes even as it commended Governor Agbu Kefas on his proactive and visionary leadership which has brought about peace, unity and stability in most parts of the State.
However, it appealed for the immediate return of all displaced Tiv persons to their respective ancestral homes while, calling on Taraba State Government to fast track accelerated infrastructure development in Tiv Communities.
Similarly, it appealed for a Government recognized Tiv Traditional Central Leadership that would organize and coordinate the Tiv people more effectively.
Recall that the Workshop which lasted from 3rd to 5th of April 2025 in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State, was attended by carefully selected Stakeholders including Traditional Leaders, Leadership of the Tiv Cultural and Social Association (TCSA), Clergies, Political appointees, Women and Youths Leaders.
