Tiv Elders Forum deny allege plans to disrupt peace in Taraba Community, reject call to apprehend Mr. Nenshi

Daniel Mtindiga, Jalingo

The Wukari Tiv Elders Forum has denied the gross allegations of planning to disrupt peace in Taraba State Community.

The Forum also rejected in totality, the call for the apprehension and investigation of their son, Mr. Terer Nenshi stating that the call was not only unwarranted but equally, uncalled for, unjustifiable and baseless.

In a Press Release signed and made available to Newsmen in Jalingo by the Forum’s Chairman, Elder Shian Namkpindi, the Forum expressed deep worries over the recent Press Statement signed and issued by the Chairman of Wukari Local Government Council Hon. Agbu Dauda Samaila on the 2nd of April,2025 alleging that Tiv Elders were planning to disrupt peace in Wukari Community and also, calling for the arrest of our Son, Mr. Terer Nenshi.

“It only behooves we speak to those allegations made by the Wukari Council Boss to put the records straight. We completely debunked the allegations by Hon.Dauda Agbu that we were out to cause tension in the Area. The recent development was simply part of our efforts to bring Tiv people together thereby, enhancing the peace efforts of our Governor, His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas and the Aku-Uka of Wukari, HRM, Dr Manu Ishaku Ada Ali, Mstatsukin I.

“We remain truly grateful for the relative peace our people are enjoying under this administration and beckon relevant stakeholders to help implement peace initiatives rather than create chances capable of escalating tension and hostilities.

With regards to the issue of Ter wukari – Tiv Central Leader in Wukari, it is unthinkable as it is unimaginable for anybody to think of usurping the exalted and preeminent throne of the traditional Leader of the famous kwararafa Kingdom, the Aku Uka of Wukari.

“The Tiv Elders forum has always identified the Aku Uka and the Wukari traditional council as the alpha and omega in the local Government to whom every group is bound to pay obesainc. It is on the above stade that we wish to state that, like the Fulani Ardo; O’pon Tarock of Tarock, among others, the Tiv Central Leader is only a unanimous creation of the Tiv Elders, to have a single Tiv son at whose feet the Tiv of Wukari can seat and reason together.

“Though we acknowledge the fact that Tiv are under District Heads in their respective communities, we have seen the need to have a central figure that can summon them to deliberate on issues disturbing them at central level and can’t be left scattered without a leader. Therefore, like any other tribe with their leader at local Govt level, the Tiv Elders have also settled for their son, Terer Nenshi as their central leader in Wukari.

“In respect to Hon.Dauda’s position that he never gave approval to our meeting at Ikyaior which took on 30/12/2024, we wish to state categorically that we are happy that the Chairman never denied that he wasn’t notified of the said meeting. The Chairman that we know wouldn’t have hesitated to object to the said meeting on the ground that it is a security threat. So, his none objection was best interpreted as an implied consent and indeed the said meeting held peacefully and yielded positive results.

“On the call to apprehend and investigate Mr Nenshi Terer, we want to state unequivocally that, the said Mr Nenshi is ever ready and willing to honour any invitations from the relevant security agencies hence, the call for his arrest is not only unwarranted but also uncalled for, as he is not at large but always available, “the Statement reads in parts.

The Forum however, called on the public not to share in the sentiment of those who do not mean well for peace and development of Wukari Local Government and Taraba State but engage in discussions and activities that promotes unity, peaceful co-existence and development for the common good of all.
