Taraba Youths Trained on Media for Peacebuilding

A two-day workshop on “Taraba Youth Media for Peace” was held from October 9 to 10, 2025, at Star Exclusive Hotel in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
Organised by the Taraba State Bureau for Peace and Conflict Management in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft fĂĽr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the training brought together youths from some local government areas of the state.
The workshop aimed to equip young people with practical skills to use the media as a tool for promoting peace, tolerance, and unity in their communities.
Participants attended interactive sessions on the role of media in shaping public opinion, strategies for effective communication and conflict resolution, and ways to build networks of youth advocates for peace.
Speaking to Echo Express after the training, one participant described the experience as “enlightening and transformative,” saying the sessions deepened their understanding of how media can help prevent conflict and foster mutual understanding.
“I’m committed to promoting peace and unity in my community. By working together, we can create a more harmonious and prosperous society,” the participant added.
The “Media for Peace” initiative seeks to transform media from a tool of division into one that fosters understanding, inclusivity, and reconciliation. It emphasises responsible communication, peace education, community engagement, and countering hate speech and misinformation.
Organisers expressed confidence that the training will have a lasting impact, equipping Taraba youths to serve as ambassadors of peace through positive storytelling and responsible media engagement.
