The Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Change, Gembu is to commence academic activities in May this year.

The Chairman of the Implementation Committee for the take off of the University, Prof Mahmud Hamidu Umar announced this in Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area of state.

Prof Mahmud Hamidu Umar was speaking when he led other members of the Committee on a courtesy call on the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council, Hon M. J Umar in his office.

He explained that the Committee was in Gembu to inspect both the temporary and permanent sites of the institution ahead of its first academic session, which is scheduled to begin with the remedial programme in May this year.

He informed the Chairman that the Taraba State Government has approved the Gembu Rest House as the staff quarters for the University.

The Chairman used the opportunity to commend the Council Chairman for the modest achievements he has recorded in the area, including the establishment of the University, which is happening during his tenure.

Responding, the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council Hon M. J. Umar, expressed delight for receiving what he described as a strong delegation of scholars from across the country on the Mambilla Plateau.

He equally expressed gratitude to Governor Agbu Kefas for approving the University and setting the necessary machinery in motion for its take off, including provision of substantial funds.

He lamented that due to the difficult terrain of the Mambilla Plateau, many youth from the area usually travel long distances to further their education.

The Chairman however, noted that with the establishment of the Institution, many of such youth will now have the opportunity to study closer home.

He used the forum to commend all the stakeholders who stood firmly to ensure the actualisation of the institution and the Committee for its prompt action, assuring them of his administration’s full support and cooperation towards a successful take-off.

The Chairman later led the Committee to the palace of the Ta Mboon Mambilla, Dr Audu Baju II, who gave his fatherly blessings, promising the full support of the traditional council.

The Steering and Implementation Committee of the Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Change was inaugurated on the 16th of this month by the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas at the Exco Chamber of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.

Details of the Committee’s courtesy to the Mambilla Plateau is contained in a Press Release by Marvelous Heli, SA Media and Communications to the Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council.
