The Wukari Tennis Club in Wukari, the administrative headquarters of Wukari Local Government Area is now wearing a new look, courtesy of Joel Adi Gani, a seasoned tennis player and current Chairman of the Tennis Club in Abuja.

Investigations by our correspondent reveal that the club has been a cradle for nurturing tennis talents in Taraba State, with several players who started their journey there now representing the state and nation with pride.

According to Aji Baku, a veteran player at the club, the Wukari Tennis Club was established around 1967 by Ibrahim Sangari.

According to him, Sangari not only built the club but also made it the only one of its kind in the North East at the time, because he was well known for sponsoring talented players to participate in competitions.

Among those he supported are Joel Adi Gani himself, Abdulraham Idi, Daniel Joshua Aji, Coach Ahmed Ataki, late Murtala Habu, Ibrahim Joshua, Nuhu Adi Gani, Sule Samaila, Dauda Mamman, late Musa Ahima, late Adi Atoshi, Bulus Hassaini, Agori, late John Ahima, Yakubu Bully, Audu Shehu, Nathaniel, Fred Audu, late Mallam Bako, Saidu Samaila, late Fari Alamanta, Mallam Bala Habu and Magaji Solomon.

Baku added that the club continues to produce players who have been representing Taraba State both nationally and internationally.

He praised Joel Adi Gani for not forgetting his roots, highlighting his continued support in providing tennis equipment such as nets and balls, and more recently, his role in the club’s renovation.

“Joel has a passion for developing young talents in tennis and remains committed to supporting the Wukari Tennis Club,” Baku concluded.
