TARABA SPORTS COMMISSION: COACH BULUS HUSSAINI TAKES CHARGE, PROMISES FRESH START FROM THE GRASSROOTS

The newly created Taraba State Sports Development Commission has officially taken off operations, marking a new chapter for sports development in the state.

The commission formally took over from the dissolved Taraba State Sports Council and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development at a brief but symbolic handover ceremony held at the Jolly Nyame Sports Complex in Jalingo.
At the event, the newly appointed Chairman of the Commission, renowned national and international Lawn Tennis Coach, Bulus Hussaini, officially assumed duty and expressed his readiness to rebuild the sports sector from the ground up.
Coach Hussaini stressed that he met an empty structure with no staff, vehicles, or sports equipment in place.
According to him, this means the new commission must start afresh and focus on rebuilding the system from the grassroots.
“What I met on ground shows that we are starting from zero. There are no staff, no vehicles, no equipment. But we won’t be discouraged. We are going back to the grassroots, right from the primary schools, to develop and nurture young talents. Taraba is full of untapped potential, and our job is to bring these talents to light,” he stated.
Coach Hussaini also outlined plans to establish functional offices in all the 16 local government areas of the state, saying this will help the commission reach every community and effectively coordinate sporting activities statewide.
He acknowledged the full support of the Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, who he said is passionate about youth empowerment and development.
“His Excellency has shown great commitment by creating this commission and the Youth Development Agency. This clearly shows his love for young people and his belief that sports can be a tool for unity and progress,” Hussaini said.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, the veteran coach pledged to devote his experience and energy to reposition sports in Taraba State.
He assured that his administration would discover, train, and promote young athletes who can represent the state and the country in national and international competitions.
He revealed that Governor Kefas also has plans to renovate the Jolly Nyame Sports Complex, which has been in a state of neglect, and restore it to a standard sporting facility capable of hosting major events.
Coach Hussaini appealed to sports lovers, government officials, and the people of Taraba State to give him and his team their full support as they embark on this challenging but promising journey.
“With teamwork, dedication, and support from everyone, Taraba will soon rise again in the world of sports,” he assured.
Speaking earlier, Coach George Shitta, who has been the Taraba State Director of Sports, commended the appointment of Coach Bulus Hussaini as the Chairman of the newly created Taraba State Sports Development Commission.
He stressed that the Chairman is not a new person in the sports sector, calling on the staff to give the new leadership the needed support and cooperation to ensure success, pledging his maximum support.
