Taraba Security: Troops Arrest Owner of Abandoned Vehicle Found With AK-47 Rifle in Bantaje

In a follow-up operation to the recent recovery of an AK-47 rifle in a vehicle which the owner abandoned and ran away in Bantaje town of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, troops of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested the owner of the abandoned vehicle and another accomplice on 8 September 2024.
This is contained in a Press Release signed by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade of the Nigeria Army located in Jalingo, Taraba State, Captain Olubodunde Oni.
“Recall that on 5 September 2024, troops had intercepted a suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris vehicle with Registration Number, Taraba KLD 652 XA, and discovered an AK-47 rifle and other incriminating items hidden in the vehicle compartment where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.
“Following a thorough investigation and intelligence gathering, troops tracked down and arrested Mallam Abubakar Adamu, the owner of the abandoned vehicle and a suspect in the criminal activities in the area.
“During interrogation, Adamu confessed to have sent the driver who is still at large to convey the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari in Wukari LGA of Taraba State. Mallam Abubakar was arrested in Mutum Biyu with 2 mobile phones alongside with the union driver Mallam Isah Ibrahim who is also an accomplice”.
Captain Olubodunde Oni revealed that the two suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation to reveal the extent of his involvement in various criminal enterprises and to arrest the wanted driver of the vehicle.
The Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa who commended the Troops for their dedication and resilience, stated that “this arrest is a testament to our commitment to maintaining peace and security in Taraba State and its environs.”
He therefore thanked the people of Taraba State for assisting the Brigade with credible intelligence that led to the success of the operation.
He further urged the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies, emphasizing that “our success depends on the cooperation and support of the good people of Taraba State.”
