Taraba: Sardauna LG Chairman Declares Support For Operation Back-to-School Campaign

The Chairman of Sardauna Local Government Council of Taraba State, Hon M. J. Umar has declared his total support for the Operation Back-to-School Children Campaign.
The Chairman expressed this commitment during the launching of a street campaign to bring back children who are out of school in Gembu, headquarters of Sardauna Local Government Area organized by the Education Secretary, Mr Sam Solomon.
He warned that henceforth, any parent whose child is found on the street during school hours will be arrested while such children will be enrolled in school to continue their education.
Hon Umar appealed to parents not to deprive their children of their rights to education, noting that parents have no excuse to keep their children out of school as Governor Agbu Kefas has declared education free, and making available books and other school materials.
He urged the pupils not to allow anyone to jeopardize their future, expressing optimism that there are great men and leaders among them.
The Chairman therefore advised that hawking and learning trades should only be done after school hours.
The Chairman lauded the Education Secretary for carrying out the assignment entrusted to him diligently by ensuring that the children return to school.
The Education Secretary had earlier explained that following the directive of the Taraba State Governor Dr Agbu Kefas and the Chairperson of the Universal Basic Education Board, a large scale Back-to-School Campaign was launched across the state to return out-of-school children to the classrooms.
Mr Sam Solomon presented to the Chairman, some pupils who were found on the streets hawking, saying some of them were forced into hard labour by their parents.
He announced that the campaign started on the 19th of this month and over 300 pupils were recorded on the first day and more than that number, on the following day.
