Taraba Procurement Audit Not To Victimise Anyone – Committee Chairman

The Committee set up by the Taraba State Government to audit procurement procedures in the State says the exercise is not aimed at victimizing anyone.
The Chairman of the Procurement Audit Committee, Mr. Assemboh Tanko Shamaki made the clarifications while speaking to Journalists in his office in Jalingo, the Taraba State Capital.
He explained that the Procurement Audit exercise introduced by the Bureau of Public Procurement is not intended at victimizing or witch hunting Ministries, Departments or Agencies in the State, saying the main essence of setting up the PAC is to get the records straight.
He further explained that the exercise is in line with Section 8 (d) of Taraba State Public Procurement law 2012 that mandates the Bureau to audit all Procurement transactions of MDAs in the State to ensure that no procurement item violated the law.
The Chairman, who is also the Director General of the Taraba State Bureau of Public Procurement said the Bureau has observed that many MDAs in the State have not been keeping proper records of their procurement processes especially when it comes to procurement items within their thresholds, hence the need for the exercise.
“We observed that many MDAs have not been keeping records of their procurement processes in some cases, you know every MDAs have their threshold or some of them conducted such procurement entity without any recourse to the Bureau, so that the Bureau will give them certification to go ahead. Many MDAs are not doing such things, so in order to update these records with the Bureau, we have to embark on this exercise” he said.
He also advised all heads of MDAs to feel free and cooperate with the Bureau to update their records.
