Taraba Poly Matriculates New Students, X-rays poly’s academic challenges
OKERAFOR ATHANATIUS, JALINGO.
Taraba State polytechnic, Suntai has matriculated the institution’s newly admitted students numbering about 2500 for 2023/2024 academic session.
Delivering a speech during the matriculation ceremony held Friday at the auditorium of the Jalingo campus of the Polytechnic, the Acting Rector, Dr. Amos Danlami Agbu appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas for what he described as the governor’s quality stewardship since assumption of office.

Dr. Agbu said governor Kefas has demonstrated his love for the education sector through the giant strides he made in the sector complementing his earlier declaration of free Education in all the public schools and the slashing of students’ fees by 50% in all institutions of higher learning.
“His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas has created hope for the hopeless children and parents who hitherto could not afford to pay their children’s school fees”, he said.
He further urged the newly admitted students to put on their garments of hard-work, commitment and dedication, explaining that the academic journey by which they have been enrolled into is tasking.
According to him, they mustn’t relent in putting in their best so as to overcome any form of challenge(s) that may face them in the near future.
The Ag. Rector, who reiterated the need for them to shun all forms of unlawful attitudes and behaviors now that they have been formally welcomed as bonafide students, said the management and staff of the institution frown at actions that will tarnish the image of the college.
“…..you are also cautioned to the fact that the institution has zero tolerance for; cultism, examination malpractice, fighting, indecent dressing, among others”,
“No student will be spared if found wanting”, he said.
With a view to achieving the institution’s technological core aims and objectives and moving its academic journey forward, Dr. Agbu advised the staff to contribute meaningfully, saying they must work as a team.
Highlighting the challenges hampering the smooth running of the Polytechnic, the Acting Rector mentioned the procurement/ installation of solar street light for both Jalingo and Suntai campuses, construction of more lecture classrooms and staff offices, equipment and upgrade for all laboratories and workshops.
Others are; the need to release more funds for accreditation of other programmes, rehabilitation of hostels in Suntai campus, release of monthly running cost to augment the shortfall as a result of 50% reduction in school fees, provision of Coaster/Hummer bus for utility services, procurement
/installation of solar light to classrooms and offices in Jalingo and Suntai campuses and upgrading of road network/drainages within Jalingo/Suntai campuses.

Believing that Governor Agbu Kefas will see the need to consider the above stated challenges as a priority, the Rector informed that the management of the Polytechnic has seen the agile track records, the Governor’s commitment to improving the institution’s infrastructure to reflect academic global standards and overall students’ excellence.
The ceremony was attended by the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Augustina Goodwin among other dignitaries and Guests from the State.
