Taraba NULGE Protest in Support of LG Autonomy

Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE Taraba State Chapter on Monday joined its counterpart across the country to protest the non-implementation of local government Autonomy.

The members of the NULGE who appeared in the Union’s uniforms, commenced the protest from Jalingo local government headquarters.

 

Addressing the members, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE Taraba State Chapter, Baji Wakili Damuga said the protest is a directive from its national headquarters seeking the granting of local government Autonomy.

 

According to him, if granted autonomy, the Local government areas will regain their lost glory in diverse sectors.

 

He mentioned job opportunities, infrastructure development, roads, security and economic development as some of the derivable benefits that have been denied the Local Governments for many years.

 

Baji Wakili Damuga said the federal government should expedite action to grant the autonomy of the local governments in the interest of the progress and development of the country.

 

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘grant local government Autonomy ‘ local government deserve Financial Freedom, a call to support Local government Autonomy.
