Taraba NUJ Correspondents Chapel To Boycott State Govt Activities, Pass Vote of No Confidence On Information Commissioner

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Taraba State, has announced an indefinite boycott of all State government activities in Taraba state.
This was part of the decision taken after an emergency congress of the Chapel, where members expressed anger over their exclusion from covering two major events, the Taraba State International Investment Summit (TARAVEST) and the recent visit of President Bola Tinubu.
The Chapel described the government’s action as a deliberate attempt to sideline and silence the press.
In a resolution, the Chapel said the move shows a lack of transparency and disregard for press freedom.
As part of its decision, the Chapel passed a vote of no confidence on the Taraba State Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman Jalingo, describing her as unfit for the position.

This followed her reported comment that only invited journalists were allowed to attend a recent government road walk, from which the Correspondents’ Chapel was excluded.
The Chapel said the action confirms that the government is avoiding media scrutiny and possibly hiding information from the public.
Despite the boycott, the Chapel reaffirmed its commitment to reporting on issues affecting citizens and holding the government accountable.
