Taraba: Nigerian Customs Service Cracks Down On Smugglers

The Nigerian Customs Service Operation Whirlwind has seized Petroleum products worth over 37 Million Naira at a Taraba State’s border areas with the Republic of Cameroon.
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital while on an operational visit.
The visit was aimed at addressing the growing trend of smuggling activities and seizures made by the service through its operation whirlwind in trans border smuggling attempts between Nigeria in Taraba border communities and the Republic of Cameroon.
According to him, the operation led to the seizure of 34, 470 Litres of PMS and a sophisticated special purpose transportation vehicle valued at over 37 Million Naira.
The Comptroller General disclosed that the service has witnessed a surge in petroleum smuggling across the North East, particularly along the Adamawa and Taraba states axis and said they are on the verge of introducing a pilot programme for threat assessment and adaptive response planning.
The Service says it has initiated a zero-tolerance for smuggling as it has been repositioned to enhance intelligence-based operations.
