Taraba: Karim I bye-election, PDP’S failure, lessons  – Party chieftain

A chieftain of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Mallam Aminu Jika has advised party faithfuls in the State to learn lessons from the result of the Karim I State House of Assembly bye-election where PDP lost to the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC).

Aminu Jika, who doubles as the Chairman, Committee on Karim I State constituency bye-election stated this Tuesday while answering questions from Journalists shortly after being inaugurated as the Chairman at the party Secretariat in Jalingo.
Noting that a lot of factors enabled PDP’s defeat to APC, Jika disclosed that the committee would go through all the factors, meet with the critical stakeholders of the constituency, to see whether the failure, was as a result of members not taking responsibilities seriously.
“It’s a political surgery that we want to carry out to ascertain where we have derailed as a party that made us to lose the election”,
“We want to do X-ray, medical checkup on the election and see where we are at fault, our stakeholders are at fault, our party and other factors that contributed to our loss in the election of Karim I State constituency”,
“That is what we intend to do and the key is to be fair to everybody, talk to everybody in an orderly manner”,
“There are allegations and counter-allegations, rumours, but it’s very very important for PDP to learn its lessons from this experience and get prepared for subsequent elections in 2027″, he said.
The Committee Chairman however, revealed that there were issues of election malpractices which he stated would be taken care of by the Court of law.
Our Correspondent gathered that the State Working Committee of PDP constituted and inaugurated a -7 man Committee to do a thorough appraisal of the 16th August Karim I bye-election and ascertain the remote causes of PDP’S failure in the election.
