Taraba Judiciary Adopts Administration of Criminal Justice Law Practice 2025

The Taraba Judiciary in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) has adopted the State Administration of Criminal Justice Law Practice Direction No. 1 Of 2025 in Jalingo.
Justice Joel Agya, Chief Judge of Taraba during a One Day Validation Meeting for Taraba State Administration of Criminal Justice Law Practice Direction No.1 of 2025, said the exercise would engender modern legal practice in the state.
Justice Agya said the exercise represented a significant step towards entrenching a criminal justice system that would be efficient, fair and consistent with the rule of law.
He gave assurance that the event would enable the Taraba Judiciary not only to implement the modern legal practice but to also serve as a model for other jurisdictions in promoting access to justice.
He also said the event demonstrated the resolve of the state Judiciary to modernize its justice sector as well as to protect the rights of citizens and promote accountability.
The Chief Judge commended NAILS for its unwavering dedication to the development of law and legal institutions in Nigeria.

Earlier, Prof. Abdulqudri Abikan, Director General of the Institute, said they were in the state to provide technical support to the state Judiciary for the enhancement of the implementation of the Taraba State Criminal Justice Law Practice Direction 2025.
Prof Abikan said the exercise was conducted in 20 states of the federation, saying it requires all stakeholders to jointly come out with an acceptable and sustainable order for the state.
He said the institute would print 200 copies of the adopted document for the Chief Judge of the state for onward distribution to Courts.
The Director General announced that the project was funded by Mac Arthur Foundation for the implementation of the modern legal practice in the country.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Taraba State Judiciary especially the Chief Judge who personally participated in the exercise, saying ‘i am encouraged’.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that stakeholders were drawn from the State Ministry of Justice, High Court Judges, Magistrates, the Nigerian Police, the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigerian Bar Association and the Chief Registrar among others.
