Taraba Govt Bans Illegal felling of Trees

In a bit to mitigate land degradation in Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has banned the indiscriminate felling of trees across the state.
The Governor represented by the Taraba State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali announced this during a stakeholders’ Consultative Forum and Hybrid implementation Support Mission to Taraba state Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape, held at the C2C Event Centre, Jalingo.
Governor Kefas thanked the Federal Government and World Bank for bringing the laudable project to Taraba state.
The Governor who expressed happiness, said the visit is timely.
Earlier, the Taraba State Commissioner for Environment, Aishatu Barde, called on critical stakeholders to key into the programme to enable it succeed in the state.
The Commissioner thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for receiving the visitors warmly.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator, ACReSAL, Abdulhamid said the project is being run by the Federal Ministries of Environment, Agriculture and Food Security, and Water Resources in the country.
He added that the project is driven by the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, noting that the project is funded by the World Bank and run by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The National Coordinator expressed happiness that the Taraba State Government has made their job easier in the state.
Also commenting, the state project Coordinator, Agro-climate Residence in Demi-Arid Landscape, ACReSAL, Ismaila Joshua said the project is a world Bank project designed to restore degraded lands due to the impacts of climate change in the 19 Northern states and the FCT as well as reduce extreme poor people in the northern region.
The state Coordinator added that ACReSAL is implemented by three ministries in the state.
He said the participation of Taraba state in the project is adding value to land restoration.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Taraba State Council of chiefs, Aku Uka, represented by the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida, called on the state government to be transparent in running the ACReSAL project the state.
The Monarch expressed optimism that, with Governor Agbu Kefas, the project would succeed in the state.
The Chairman said the coming of the project would minimize land degradation in the state.
