Taraba Gov’s Maiden Tennis Championship Ends in Wukari

The inaugural edition of the Governor Agbu Kefas Tennis Championship came to a successful close in Wukari, the administrative headquarters of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, celebrating excellence and youth empowerment through sports.

Bisen Joshua of the Wukari Tennis Club clinched the top spot in the male category, while Punariman Bajo from Jalingo emerged as the female champion.

The second and third positions in the male category were claimed by Musa Bala and Ernest Shitta, both from the Jalingo Tennis Club.

The tournament, which drew tennis enthusiasts from across the state, was lauded for its competitiveness and organization.

Bisen Joshua’s remarkable performance, which earned him the championship title, was especially celebrated as a victory for Wukari.
During the closing ceremony, Mr. Orume Baku, Coordinator of Governor Kefas’ political campaign, described the tournament as part of the Moving Forward Agenda, aimed at enhancing youth engagement and empowerment through sports.

He reiterated Governor Kefas’ commitment to youth development, citing the establishment of the Taraba Youth Development Agency as a landmark initiative.
Mr. Baku expressed gratitude to Governor Kefas for supporting the event and commended Brigadier General Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for their dedication.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Wukari Club, Shehu Yakubu Awudu, emphasized the historical relevance of the club and paid tribute to the late Dr. Bishop Ibrahim Sangari for his pivotal role in securing the facility.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd), appreciated the organizers for the recognition and urged citizens to continue rallying behind Governor Kefas, whom he described as a youth-friendly and visionary leader.

The event also featured goodwill messages from the Director of Sports, Taraba State, and the Registrar of the Federal University, Wukari.

Highlights included the presentation of cash prizes and certificates to outstanding players and awards to dignitaries, including the Secretary to the Government of the State Gebon Timothy Kataps, General Jeremiah Faransa, and Joel Adi Gani among others.
