Taraba Gov To Revive Parents-Teachers Association for Stronger School Management

The Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has announced that his administration will revive the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) in public schools across Taraba State as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector.

The Governor made this known during a meeting with head teachers of public primary schools and principals of public secondary schools in the state held at the Banquet Hall of TY Danjuma House, Jalingo, the state capital.
Governor Kefas directed that the renewed PTA structure must include security agencies and traditional rulers to ensure schools are safer and better managed.
He also assured that funds will be made available to schools for renovations and improvements.
According to him, public schools under the initiative should be fenced for security, while open roads leading directly to school premises should either be diverted or managed through direct labour and community engagement.
He further instructed that quality chairs be provided for students, trees planted to improve the school environment, and accurate teacher data compiled for training and capacity building.
The Governor also directed school heads to open accounts into which government funds will be deposited to enable them commence immediate renovation and upgrade of projects.
In her welcome remarks, the Taraba State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, described education as the foundation of every society.

She noted that since Governor Kefas assumed office, he has consistently interfaced with head teachers and principals, recognizing them as the heartbeat of the education sector.
Dr. Augustina emphasized that the ministry’s policy designs only come alive through the commitment and dedication of school heads.
She added that under Governor Kefas’ supervision, the ministry has worked tirelessly to strengthen the education system, ensure the sanctity of the free education policy, and sustain government payment of external examination fees such as NECO and WAEC.
She further disclosed that the free education policy has already led to significant improvements in students enrollment across Taraba State.
