Taraba Gov Pays Tribute to Fallen Heroes at Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Jalingo

By Hilary John

The Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has paid tribute to fallen Nigerian soldiers and praised serving members of the Armed Forces for their sacrifices to the nation.

The Governor spoke at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Jolly Nyame Sports Complex, Jalingo.

He described the day as more than a ceremonial event, saying it was a moment of gratitude and renewed commitment to national unity and peace.

Governor Kefas said the occasion was set aside to remember men and women of the Armed Forces who laid down their lives in the service of the country, as well as those who served quietly and faithfully without public recognition.

He noted that their courage and sacrifice would never be forgotten.

He also saluted officers and men still in active service, particularly those operating in communities, conflict areas and difficult terrains to protect lives and maintain peace.

According to him, their dedication to preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty is a sacrifice the nation can never fully repay.

The Governor said he understood the sacrifices made by service personnel and their families, noting that the burden of duty and decision-making made the day especially meaningful to him.

Governor Kefas commended the Armed Forces in Taraba State for improving security, stabilising communities and restoring public confidence.

He also praised their collaboration with other security agencies, saying effective coordination, intelligence sharing and mutual respect had produced visible results.

He stressed that security could not be achieved by force alone but through trust, cooperation and shared responsibility between the government, security agencies and the public.

The Governor assured that his administration would continue to support security institutions through concrete actions, collaboration and respect, adding that development cannot thrive without security, just as lasting security requires the support of the people.

He concluded by honouring the fallen heroes, observing a moment of silence in their memory, and calling for renewed commitment to unity and peace.

He prayed for the repose of their souls, strength for the Armed Forces and a stronger Nigeria.
