Taraba Gov Inaugurates Judicial Commission on Karim Lamido Crisis, Unveils TIFFO Steering Committee

In a move to restore peace and order in crisis-torn parts of Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the recent violence in Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

At the same event, the Governor also launched the Steering Committee for the Taraba Initiative for Farmland and Forest Occupation (TIFFO).
The twin inauguration ceremony took place at the Banquet Hall of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
In his address, Governor Kefas described the two newly inaugurated institutions as “pillars of truth, justice, restoration, and prosperity.”
He said the Karim Lamido crisis was one of the most painful episodes in the state’s recent history, noting the loss of lives, the breakdown of communities, and the erosion of trust.
“This is why we have set up this Commission of Inquiry,” the governor said.
“Its responsibilities include uncovering both the remote and immediate causes of the violence, identifying the actors and sponsors involved, and addressing land-related issues with a focus on peacebuilding and justice.”
Governor Kefas added that the scope of the Commission would not be limited to Karim Lamido alone but would extend to other flashpoints across the state where similar tensions might be simmering.
“Let the message be clear,” he warned. “Impunity will no longer find sanctuary in Taraba State.”
He urged the commission to be fair but firm, independent yet inclusive, and thoroughly just in its proceedings.
Turning to the Taraba Initiative for Farmland and Forest Occupation (TIFFO), the Governor lamented that the state’s natural blessings—fertile land, vast forests, and abundant water resources—have increasingly become flashpoints for conflict, exploitation, and disorder.
“TIFFO represents a bold, structured response to regulate and secure farmlands and forest reserves across the state,” he explained.
Governor Kefas expressed optimism that TIFFO would serve as a long-term strategy for land use, environmental protection, and agricultural development, while also curbing land-related disputes and unauthorized occupation.
In their separate acceptance speeches, the Emir of Muri, Abbas Njidda Tafida, and the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry, Justice Salias Haruna , expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them worthy of the assignments.
They pledged their commitment to serve with diligence, fairness, and integrity.
The dual initiatives mark another milestone in Governor Kefas’ administration’s efforts to foster sustainable peace, good governance, and responsible land management across Taraba State.
