Taraba Gov Flags Off Bobboji Storm Water Control Project in Jalingo

Residents of Jalingo are set to benefit from a major intervention as the Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, officially flagged off the Bobboji Storm Water Control Construction Project aimed at tackling persistent flooding in the area.

Performing the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property through people-focused initiatives.

He noted that the project would bring lasting relief to residents who have endured years of erosion and flood damage.
The governor also directed the Jalingo Local Government Council to immediately rehabilitate the road linking the affected community, stating that improved access would enhance the effectiveness of the drainage project.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, described the Bobboji erosion as a serious environmental catastrophe and praised the state government for taking bold steps to address the challenge.

The Taraba State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Aishat Barde, emphasized the gravity of the drainage problem, describing it as a significant threat to lives and property.

She revealed that the state government secured support from the World Bank due to the magnitude and urgency of the intervention.
Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, Team Leader of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, noted that the Bobboji storm water control initiative is among the project’s priority interventions because of its scale and expected impact.

She added that beyond addressing flooding, the project would generate employment opportunities for residents during and after construction.


In separate remarks, the Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Area, Hon. Nura Dantsoho, and the Galadima Muri, Alhaji Abba Tukur Abba, commended Governor Kefas for his swift response and decisive action in resolving the long-standing environmental challenge.
