TARABA ELECTRICITY BILL, ECONOMICALLY COMPETITIVE – Commissioner

Taraba State Commissioner for Energy and Economic Development, Engr Naomi Tanko Agbu has described the Taraba State Electricity Bill as a Bill that is economically competitive with that of other States in the country.

The Commissioner stated this during a Public Hearing organized by Taraba State House Committee on Power held at the Committee hall of the State House of Assembly Jalingo.

 

She stressed that the Bill will also provide a comprehensive legal framework to guide the operations of Electricity Generation, Transmission, Distribution, licensing, Trading and enforcement of consumer rights and obligations in the State.

 

She explained that the Bill will also promote policy and regulatory measures to ensure the expansion of power transmission networks in Taraba State to address any imbalance in the existing transmission infrastructure.

 

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Honourable Angye Josiah Yaro, Member representing Wukari 2, said the bill is meant to provide legal framework for Electricity regulation in the State.

 

He welcomed contributions from stakeholders ,groups and individuals to ensure a clean bill that will reflect international standards.

 

It could be recalled that the bill which was sponsored by the State Commissioner for Energy and Economic Development has scaled through Second reading at the floor of the State House of Assembly before  it was referred to the Committee on Power for a Public Hearing.
