Taraba Assembly Confirms Mike Dio As Commissioner

The Taraba State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Dr. Mike Dio Jen as Commissioner for the Ministry of Tertiary Education.

Dr. Jen, a former lawmaker in the 10th Assembly, was screened and approved during Tuesday’s plenary session in Jalingo, Taraba State Capital.
The confirmation followed an executive request from Governor Agbu Kefas, who emphasized the need to separate the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education from that of Tertiary Education.
According to the Governor, this restructuring aims to improve oversight of students enrollment and enhance the quality of teaching and learning at all educational levels.
Described as a seasoned educationist, Dr. Mike Dio presented his credentials to the Assembly before receiving a unanimous support from the lawmakers.
Presiding over the session, the Deputy Speaker, Hamman Adama Abdullahi directed the Clerk, Salmuna Amos Sani, to formally communicate the confirmation to the Governor.
In a separate development, the Taraba State Water Users Agency Establishment Bill, 2025, has scaled through its second reading on the floor of the House.
The Majority Leader, Jethro Yakubu Zikengyu led the debate, highlighting the importance of water to human survival.
He explained that the proposed bill seeks to establish an Agency responsible for the operation, maintenance, and development of irrigation systems, drainage, and agricultural infrastructure.
Supporting the motion, lawmakers from Kurmi, Bali I, and Lau constituencies—Dr. Tafarki Abgadu Eneme, Veronica Alhassan, and Nuhu Akila Ratiyo in that order, emphasized the vital role of water and called for the bill’s speedy passage.
The Deputy Speaker then referred the Bill to the House Committee on Water Resources for further legislative action, including a public hearing to report back within one week.
