Taraba ACReSAL To Restore Degraded Environment, Boost Farming Activities in 140 communities

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape, a World Bank technical support mission, has disclosed that plans have been concluded to establish four components of dry-land management, community climate resilience, project development, and contingency management and disaster response in 140 communities in Taraba State to restore the degraded environment and boost farming.
The Taraba State Project Coordinator, Dr Clement Yakubu Giwa disclosed this during a technical training session for participants from fifteen communities drawn from four Local Government Areas of the state.

The Local Government Areas are Jalingo, Takum, Wukari and Zing and the event was held at the Yukuben Hotel Jalingo.
The training was part of ACReSAL’s deliberate move to equip the trainees with adequate knowledge of business plan and other technical areas of smart agricultural practices which will serve as a Catalyst and Agent of Change to enhance climate resilience in the state.
The target for the CRF communities in the state is 140 and each community is expected to benefit 25,000 US dollars and the pilot projects have already started in 15 Communities of Jalingo with 5 communities, Takum 4 communities, Wukari and Zing 3 communities each.
The Taraba State Project Coordinator stressed that Northern Nigeria is characterized by conflicts because of the mega natural resources which call for competition between farmers and herders, hence the need to tackle the situation.
He called on the stakeholders to collaborate with ACReSAL to ensure that the degraded environment is restored, for adequate food to be supplied to the table, carter for the vulnerable people in the community and through the ACReSAL activities, a good livelihood can be sustained.
