Taraba @ 34: Kona Ward District Head Urges Peace, Inclusiveness and Credible Elections

By Hilary John

As Taraba State celebrates 34 years of its creation, the District Head of Kona Ward, Mr. Anthony Kaigama, has sent a message of goodwill to the people, urging them to uphold peace, unity, and tolerance in politics.

Mr Anthony Kaigama

“As 2027 approaches, many people are rushing and destabilizing plans for the elections, which is not proper,” he said.

“If you are interested in any elective position, come out and contest. If the people are satisfied with your manifesto, they will vote for you. There is no point fighting here and there.”

The traditional ruler also stressed that election outcomes should be accepted in good faith, while winners should carry everyone along. “Once you are elected, remember that all citizens are under your care,” he added.

Reflecting on Taraba’s journey so far, Kaigama admitted that the state’s development may not fully match its 34 years of existence but expressed confidence in Governor Agbu Kefas. “Do your best, improve the state where necessary, and leave the rest for those coming after you,” he urged.

He further appealed to young people to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“Go and register, get your PVCs, and be ready to elect credible leaders of your choice,” he advised.

Looking ahead, the district head expressed optimism that Taraba’s best days are still to come.

He said with peace, unity, and credible leadership, the state can build on its natural and human resources to truly live up to its name as “Nature’s Gift to the Nation.”
