Takum Samba Sociocultural Development Association Pledges Support for Governor Kefas, Calls for Strengthening of Key Sectors

The Takum Samba Sociocultural Development Association has reaffirmed its confidence in the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, pledging continued support for policies aimed at building a stronger and more united Taraba State.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Victor Usman, the group emphasized that its position is not politically motivated but rooted in a commitment to peace, unity, and progress. The Association noted that while diverse opinions have trailed the performance of the administration over the past two years, it believes the collective responsibility of communities, government, and stakeholders remains the best way to advance the state’s development.
Commending Governor Kefas for initiatives already underway, the group highlighted achievements in agriculture, education, infrastructure, economic growth, healthcare, culture, and security. It particularly praised the government’s interventions in agriculture, the introduction of free and compulsory education, and the 50% reduction in tertiary school fees, which it said had eased the burden on families.
On infrastructure, the Association lauded the role of the Taraba Geographic Information Service (TAGIS) and called for more investment in road networks, renewable energy, and urban planning. It further acknowledged economic initiatives such as the renovation of the Danbaba Suntai Airport, the hosting of TARAVEST 2025, and the automation of the state’s internal revenue service, urging government to also boost tourism, energy, and vocational training.
In the healthcare sector, the group commended the commissioning of a Dental Hospital at the Taraba State Specialists Hospital, the provision of N10 million worth of drugs for vulnerable groups, and upgrades at the College of Nursing and Midwifery. It urged the administration to expand healthcare access across the state.
The Association also hailed the peaceful resolution of the Takum Chieftaincy impasse and the revival of the Nwonyo Fishing Festival after 14 years, describing them as milestones in promoting cultural pride and unity. On security, it welcomed government’s efforts, including the establishment of military bases in Wukari and Karim Lamido and the creation of the Peace and Justice Commission, while recommending more community-based strategies.
Concluding, the Takum Samba Sociocultural Development Association pledged to continue partnering with Governor Kefas’s administration to promote peace, unity, and people-centered governance. “Our recommendations are non-partisan, but aimed at ensuring that the administration remains focused on people-centered policies,” the statement read.
