Soldier Stabs Police Constable to Death in Taraba

Trooper Dauda Dedan, a newly recruited soldier who had just passed out from the military recruitment training at Depot Nigerian Army has allegedly stabbed Police Constable Aaron John of Taraba State Command to death in Jalingo.
Confirming the incident to Newsmen in Jalingo on Wednesday, James Lashen, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Taraba Command said the incident occured at 9 pm on Monday in Mayo-Gwoi, a suburb of Jalingo town in Taraba State.
Lashen said the late constable was alerted by some residents of the area of a misunderstanding between them and the soldier, which later led to stabbing of the police officer by the soldier.
The PPRO, who said that the soldier was at large, said the army had already commenced investigation into the matter, saying the army had assured the police of tracking down the suspect to face the full wrath of the law.
“We have reported the matter to 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army and they have given us full assurances of tracking the fugitive soldier and making him available to face the full wrath of the law.
“Both the army and the police are working hand in hand, we have gotten to the house of the soldier and we would ensure he is arrested and is brought to book accordingly,” he said.
Lashen maintained that the relationship between the two security agencies was very cordial. (NAN)
