Recertification of C of Os Will Boost Landowners’ Confidence – TAGIS DG

The Director General of the Taraba Geographic Information System (TAGIS), Dr Joshua Mark Ma’aku, says the ongoing plans for the recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) will strengthen the confidence of landowners across Taraba State.

Dr Ma’aku made the statement during an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo.
He explained that many individuals who have sold their properties to new owners still retain the original C of O documents.
According to him, the recertification exercise will allow TAGIS to update its records and align its data with global best practices.
The DG noted that the shift from analog to digital land administration is a gradual but necessary process, emphasizing his commitment to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and streamline land administration in the state.
Highlighting the legal framework of the agency, he revealed that the law establishing TAGIS was passed by the Taraba State House of Assembly and assented to by the Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas—a move he described as a historic milestone.
He dismissed any report of internal conflict within TAGIS, clarifying that the agency’s new name encompasses all departments of the former Bureau of Lands and Survey, along with additional units.
Dr Ma’aku reaffirmed Governor Kefas’ commitment to training 250 personnel to support the transition to a modern, digital land management system.
He added that TAGIS currently has close to 100 staff and is optimistic that more personnel will be recruited to enhance performance.
He called on residents of Taraba State to support the agency in its efforts to deliver efficient and transparent land administration services.
