NUJ Zone E, Endorses Alhassan Yahya, Abimbola Oyetunde As National President, Deputy

The Northeast Zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ has unanimously endorsed the Current Deputy National President of the Union, Comrade Alhassan Yahya and Mrs Abimbola Oyetunde as National President and Deputy National President in the forthcoming Delegates Conference of the Union slated for Owerri, Imo State later this month.
The decision of Zone is contained in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Gombe held on Monday.
The meeting which was presided over by the Vice President of Zone, Comrade Zare Baba was attended by the Chairmen and Secretaries of the Councils and the National Officers from the zone with some participating through zoom.
Speaking at the meeting, the Zonal Vice President emphasized the exceptional qualities and leadership style of Comrade Alhassan Yahya, the current Deputy National President of the Union, stressing that the Northeast has a unique and historic opportunity to present its first ever Candidate for the Presidency of the Union.
He therefore urged all Delegates from the zone to unite behind Comrade Yahya, highlighting the tremendous support he has received from NUJ members across the country.
At the end of deliberations, the meeting resolved as follows:
“1. Endorsed the Candidature of Alhassan Yahya as the sole candidate of the Zone in the forthcoming Delegates Conference of Union slated for November 2024 in Owerri, Imo State. The endorsement of Alhassan Yahya is based on the undisputed fact he is the best candidate so far because of his acceptability by NuJ members across the country and his experience as the longest serving NEC Member. The Zone resolved to speak with one voice as far as the forthcoming Delegates Conference is concerned as this will be the first time the Northeast zone is presenting a Candidate for the NUJ Presidency.
“2. The Zone equally adopted Dr Yetunde Abimbola as its Deputy National Presidential Candidate in the said election. The motion for the endorsements of Alhassan Yahya and Mrs Abimbola Oyetunde was moved by the Chairman of the Adamawa State Council, Isiaka Donald Dedan and seconded by Abdukareem Haruna, Chairman of the Borno State Council.
“3. The Meeting also adopted the current Vice President of the Zone, Zare Baba as its sole candidate to contest for his same position in the forthcoming Delegates Conference and Abubakar Musa Waziri, current National Ex-Officio as the Zonal Secretary in the election. The ratification of the two Zonal Officers followed a motion to that effect by Comrade Faruk Mu’azu Gombe, Chairman, Gombe State Council and seconded by Comrade Alhassan Sule Mamudo, Secretary, Yobe State Council.
“4. The Zonal Leaders commended the Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum for appointing Alhaji Dauda Iliya, the former NUJ State Chairman as his Spokesperson and Special Adviser on Media and the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas for appointing a former Chairman of the NUJ in the State, David Nya as a Permanent Secretary.
“5. The Meeting also commended the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya for the measures being taken towards the completion of the NuJ Press Centre in Gombe.
“6. The Meeting expressed its appreciation to the Media Aides and Information Managers to the Governors in the Zone for their support to Journalists in the Northeast geo-political zone”.
