NUJ Bauchi Mourns Fallen Gombe Journalists

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu together with Zonal Secretary Zone E, Abubakar Musa Waziri led a delegation to Gombe State to commiserate with the NUJ Gombe State Council over the tragic and shocking death of members of the pen profession, describing the incident as a painful loss that has affected journalists across Bauchi, Gombe and Nigeria as a whole.
Comrade Sa’idu said the loss has deeply affected journalists in Bauchi, stressing that anything that touches Gombe touches Bauchi, hence their decision to be the first council to pay such visit.
He prayed for the quick recovery of those currently receiving medical treatment and urged the families of the deceased to accept the loss in good faith, describing it as the will of Almighty God whose decree cannot be questioned.
He also appreciated the National President of the NUJ, Alhassan Yahya for personally receiving the Bauchi delegation, adding that the team earlier visited the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, Gombe, where they were received by the General Manager Abubakar Adamu to condole with the station over the loss of its staff.
Responding, the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, thanked the Bauchi State Council for the condolence visit and solidarity.
Comrade Alhassan Yahya expressed gratitude to the Bauchi council on behalf of practicing journalists across the country for identifying with their colleagues in this difficult moment.
He re-echoed the union’s commitment in improving the welfare of journalists, particularly in the areas of remuneration, living conditions, and health insurance, assuring members that efforts are ongoing to ensure they benefit.
The NUJ National President also commended Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his prompt support and intervention to the families of the deceased and those receiving treatment.
Yahya called on journalists to embrace unity in diversity and shun ethical and religious differences, while appreciating NUJ councils across the nation for their support and solidarity during the trying moment.
