No fewer than 2,000 Bauchí indigines enjoy free hearing aids worth N6 billion from Obasanjo Foundation

The former President Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation in collaboration with Starkey Hearing Foundation on Sunday distributed hearing aids to not less than 2,000 people across Bauchi State worth N6 billion.
Ex- President Obasanjo made the donation while officially launching his Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation at the Government House Bauchi, with the target of capturing ,10, 000 beneficiaries in the North East Nigeria, facing hearing challenges.
He explained that many people unknowingly suffer from deafness, a condition which he personally experienced during one of his meetings Abroad.
He said those who have hearing problems may not discover on time until it is diagnosed through medical check up to test the hearing capacity.
According to Obasanjo, “I was 25 percent deaf, but i did not detect it until i was struggling to hear conversations. So during a meeting i attended abroad, i could not hear properly when someone in the meeting was talking to me. I insisted that nothing was wrong with my hearing, but the man asked for permission to test my hearing capacity, where i discovered my hearing capacity was 25 percent gone”.
The Former President explained that he would be flagging off the distribution of hearing aids to more than 10,000 people facing hearing challenges in the Northeast region, starting from Bauchi State with 2,000 people to benefit.
Obasanjo while thanking Governor Bala Mohammed for partnering with his foundation, called on the people of the state to continue supporting the current administration in the state in its efforts to bring development.
Governor Bala Mohammed in his speech commended the former President and the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation for touching the lives of the common man through the distribution of the hearing aids, saying that the gesture came at no better time than now.
He said that in today’s world many people have been disabled, not by any inherent capacity, but by preventable conditions and curable diseases that are associated and fueled by poverty and other necessary needs.
Governor Mohammed said that many persons lack access to modern devices that would improve their quality of life, adding that it is disheartening that something of basic necessity can deny people to enjoy their lives.
The governor further appreciated the Obasanjo Foundation for indicating interest to partner with the foundation in the interest of Bauchi State.
