NGO Crowns Teacher with National Award

A non-profit organization, Initiative for Education and Development (IDEE) has rewarded three most outstanding teachers who won the 2024 IDEEs teacher of the year for their contributions to teaching and learning excellence in Nigeria.
Olalekan Adeeko was the keynote speaker at an event organized to mark the 8th edition with theme “Empowering Educators in the AI Era: Reversing the Teacher Shortage for a Future-Ready Education”, held in Iwopin, Ogun State on Friday.
According to him, he noted that this year’s edition brought together 10 teachers from across Nigeria following a rigorous selection process before a winner was crowned, while emphasising the transformative Power of technology in education sector.
He urged modern teachers to seek knowledge in technology and Incorporate such knowledge into their teaching profession.
Responding, the Chief Host and Technical Monitor for WISE/WICE, Kabiru Abass expressed gratitude to all the participants and acknowledged their trust in the selection process.
Abbass, who is a member of the board of Trustees IDEE, encouraged more teachers to participate in future editions, reinforcing IDEE’s commitment to celebrating and Empowering Educators across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, joint opinion of the participating teachers commended the selection process, while describing it as “transparent and credible”
The teachers also added that the 2024 IDEE teacher award stands as most structured and impactful than other editions.
Furthermore, the event honored 27 exceptional educators who were distributed across five distinct categories.
Also, top three educators from the Top 10 finalists were recognized for their outstanding contributions to teaching and learning excellence in Nigeria.
Additionally, three exceptional teachers from Ogun Waterside were honored for their remarkable efforts in overcoming challenges posed by their rural settings and preparing students to compete globally in science and the arts.
The IDEE Teachers’ Prize recognizes educators as the foundation of accessible and inclusive quality education.
It aligns with Nigeria’s National Teachers’ Education Policy by incorporating a Continuing Professional Career Path into its Teachers Development Programme (TDP)
This year’s event featured a hybrid format, incorporating both in-person and virtual training sessions to maximize participation from educators nationwide and globally.
Also, Mrs Catherine Olaotan, the Chairperson of IDEE in her remarks, encouraged teachers and the awardees to adopt participatory and skills based teaching and learning approaches.
The Executive Secretary, Ogun Waterside Education Authority, Mr Nurudeen Onaniyi appreciated the efforts of IDEE and called for more Continuing Professional Career Path Development for Teachers.
Mr. Shofela Temitayo of the Miracle of Millennium Senior Secondary School Egbeda, Lagos State won the IDEE TEACHER PRIZE 2024.
He appreciated the efforts of IDEE and encouraged teachers for more collaboration.
