NCF Reintroduces Cricket Games in 6 Borno Schools, Donate Food Items

Nigeria Cricket Federation, NFC has said Cricket is a game that has long been forgotten in Borno state among age schools children who suffered traumatic experience as a result of more than a decade of Boko Haram insurgency in region.
The Secretary General, Nigeria Cricket Federation, Sani Mohammed stated while launching the reintroduction of grassroots Cricket game in six Schools in collaboration with Borno State Chapter in Maiduguri at the weekend.
He said the reintroduction of Cricket game would enhance talent hunt and female participation in the game at the grassroots.
“Many age schools children have suffered traumatic experience, we want to change the narratives and put smile on their faces, I believe Cricket game is the best way to do this.
“It is important to us to come here to organized this game after a long period of insurgency, why we come here is that there are female energetic girls in IDPs and secondary schools.
“We found that in these northeast states, the girls are more energetic and that’s why we are involving them to give us good results. We have reintroduced Cricket in five female schools and one male school.
Sani assured that they would send coaches to various schools and promote more knowledge about Cricket games in the state.
“We are sending coaches to schools then we will search for talent and give them scholarship and start grooming them up because insurgency has affected this region a lot. We want to raise our score cards definitely we want to move into schools because there are gender issues, if you put two boys, you need to put one girl.”Sani said.
The Chairman Borno State Chapter, Usman Danjuma said the target beneficiaries are age schools children including orphans, displaced persons children and less privileged to develop their talents.
Usman said the NFC donated food items and jerseys to the selected schools as part of their widows might to support them.
In her remarks, the Principal, Government Girls Secondary School, Hauwa BK Iman thanked the organizers for the reintroduction of Cricket games in six Schools and promised that they would provide the enabling environment for the game to flourish in the state.
The selected schools include Government Girls Secondary School, Maiduguri; Government College Maiduguri; Galtimari Secondary School;Future Prowess School, and Girls Child Concern Academy Maiduguri.
