MHWUN DISBURSES OVER N12M TO IT’S RETIREES IN ADAMAWA

By Fidelis Jockthan

The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWU), Adamawa State Chapter, has disbursed over twelve million naira (N12,000,000) to 124 of its retired members through its Welfare Scheme.

The disbursement, which took place at the Union’s Secretariat, included benefits for 17 deceased members and two members who transferred their services to other areas.

Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries, the Adamawa State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Usman Babbada, urged them to use the money for its intended purpose.

Comrade Babbada, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, further encouraged the retirees to access their 2.5% basic mortgage fund.

He stated that the successful payout reflects the open and transparent leadership of his executive committee and urged future leaderships to prioritize the welfare of union members.

The gesture was met with widespread appreciation as Mr. Thomas Lucas, the immediate past Chairman of the Association of Community Health Practitioners and a beneficiary, commended the Comrade Babbada-led executives for implementing the mortgage scheme.

He urged the leadership to continue pushing for the implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) as approved by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Comrade Sa’a Luka, a long-serving Branch Executive from Yola-North Local Government Area, also praised the union’s intervention.

Mohammed Balla, speaking in a personal capacity, consoled the families of deceased beneficiaries and commended both the MHWU leadership and the government for the initiative.

Abubakar Usman from the Primary Healthcare Centre in Song lauded the prowess of the Babbada-led executives.

Also at the event, Mr. Sufiyanu, the Representative of the Desk Officer from the Federal Mortgage Bank, provided explanations to the beneficiaries and union members on the procedures for accessing their mortgage funds.

The ceremony featured goodwill messages from Comrade Mohammed Jawali, a National Executive Council (NEC) member, and Comrade Usman Iya, a former Chairman of the Union.
