By Lewula Maddeino

In the political landscape of Adamawa State, one name is generating a resonant drumming across the riverine communities of Numan, Lamurde, and Demsa:Hon. Pwamwakeno Mackondo.

Hon Pwamwakeno Mackondo

A two-term member representing Numan Constituency is being widely clamoured as the frontrunner and “The last man standing” for the Lamurde/Numan/Demsa Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.

Mackondo, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has built a formidable reputation since first being elected in 2019, a mandate renewed by his constituents in 2023 with an overwhelming vote of confidence.

His political trajectory is a testament to a philosophy rooted in accessibility, humility, and tangible service.

Often described by his constituents as “the most accessible Lawmaker since the inception of democracy in the area,” Mackondo has built a career on never shirking his responsibilities.

His approachability stands in stark contrast to the often-distant nature of political officeholders.

This humble and honest disposition has forged a powerful bond of trust with the people.

His legislative prowess, honed through key roles such as Chairman of the House Standing Committee on State Planning and membership in the Committees on Judiciary, Entrepreneur, and Local Government Areas, has made him one of the chamber’s most vibrant and effective members.

He is recognized for his deep understanding of the rudiments of legislation and its critical role in ensuring checks and balances in governance.

The call for Mackondo’s elevation to the federal level is not based on mere sentiment but on a solid track record of delivered projects and empowerment initiatives.

His tenure has been marked by significant interventions, including; Water Projects, the drilling of boreholes across all 10 wards of Numan Local Government Area, solving a critical perennial water shortage..

Direct Empowerment; The disbursement of twenty thousand Naira each to 544 beneficiaries in 2024 to bolster small-scale trade and alleviate economic hardship.

Mobility and Education; Distribution of Keke-NAPEP tricycles to constituents and consistent financial assistance to students in tertiary institutions.

As a legislator, he has successfully lobbied for major projects, including the upgrading of Numan General Hospital to a Referral Centre with expanded laboratories, theatres, and wards.
The construction of a 3.5km road linking Gweda Mallam -Izala-Wayam-Villanova.
The building of a Model School around the Villanova/Technical area.
The electrification project for Kofukai/Hayin-gada, currently in the state budget.

Mackondo points to the revitalization of the Savannah Sugar Refinery as a key achievement in combating youth unemployment.

“The refinery has employed a sizeable number of youths,” he stated. “This gesture has not only provided employment opportunities but has empowered them financially, enabling some to marry and sponsor themselves through school.

It has significantly reduced youth restiveness and the burden on elected representatives.”

On the sensitive issue of insecurity, which has occasionally troubled the area, the Lawmaker provided context.

He explained that recent pockets of violence were “internal,” involving communities like the Tchobo and Bachama who have shared inter-marriage, cultural, and religious ties for decades.

He was quick to commend the state government, noting, “With the swift intervention of His Excellency, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the entire security situation is now under control.”

This consistent performance has attracted accolades from organizations and individuals alike.

Recently, a public affairs commentator, Mr. Suleiman MD, described Mackondo as “a grassroots politician that needs to be elevated.”

This sentiment echoes the popular call from his constituents, who believe his brand of selfless service and proven ability to attract development is precisely what is needed at the federal level.

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Pwamwakeno Mackondo is positioned not just as a candidate, but as a movement.

His story is one of a local champion whose effectiveness has sparked a demand for a larger, making him the man to watch in the race for the Lamurde/Numan/Demsa Federal Constituency.
