LMC Acting Chairman Calls for Revival of FC Taraba, Says Football Key to Youth Development

The Acting Chairman of the League Management Committee (LMC), Baraya A. Usman, has called on the Taraba State Government to revive FC Taraba, stressing that football remains a vital tool for youth empowerment, unity, and social development.

Speaking at a premier league fixture between Best Planners and Super Stars, here in Jalingo, Usman explained that the committee, under the leadership of FA Chairman Sanusi Mahmood, is working tirelessly to coordinate both the Premier League and the Nationwide League.
“Football is more than just a game it is a unifying force,” Usman said. “We are bringing young people together, keeping them engaged, and giving them opportunities to grow. Some of the players we supported have already gone abroad to play professionally. In fact, one of them, who once played with Barade United despite being deaf, is now representing Nigeria at the Disabled World Cup. These are the kinds of success stories that inspire us to do more.
He emphasized that beyond sports, football has become an effective tool to curb youth restiveness. “Politics today is in the hands of the youth. If we don’t channel their energy properly, they may be drawn into conflicts. But through football, we eliminate barriers of religion, ethnicity, and tribe, bringing everyone under one umbrella of peace and unity.”
Usman used the opportunity to congratulate Tarabans on the state’s 34th anniversary, while urging Governor Agbu Kefas to prioritize the revival of FC Taraba. According to him, the return of the state’s football club will not only create jobs but also provide hope for many families.
“I was once the secretary of FC Taraba, and I saw firsthand how players’ salaries reduced unemployment and supported households. Reviving FC Taraba will once again offer such opportunities,” he said.
The LMC boss also stressed the economic benefits of active participation in the Nigerian Premier League.
“Let me tell you, if your state team plays in the Premier League, the government receives over ₦100 million in sponsorship. Sadly, Taraba is not even competing in the local league today. This is a huge missed opportunity.”
He further commended individuals such as Sanusi Mahmood and coaches like Emmanuel, who have been instrumental in grooming talents and sponsoring young players.
However, he warned that wrong appointments in football administration could derail progress.
“If the governor puts the right people those with experience, honesty, and passion FC Taraba will rise again. But if the wrong hands are given the responsibility, it will not help the state. Reviving FC Taraba will not only benefit the youth but also strengthen families, uplift communities, and bring pride to Nigeria at large.”
