Kwararafa University, Wukari Honours David Kente, 2 Others

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Party, APC in Taraba State and a philanthropist of repute, Chief David Sabo Kente was among prominent personalities who were conferred with a Honorary Doctorate Degree by the Kwararafa University, Wukari in Taraba State on Saturday.


The ceremony which was the institution’s second convocation ceremony, took place at the Institution’s convocation ground and attracted great personalities among whom was the Taraba State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali who represented Governor Agbu Kefas.

Chief David Sabo Kente was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Public Service alongside the Atta of Igala, HRH Matthew Oguche Akpa II as the Vice Chancellor of the Kwararafa University, Wukari while the Pro Chancellor of the institution and former Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC Engineer Andrew Yakubu was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Science.

Speaking during the 2nd convocation ceremony, the Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Aminu Alkali congratulated the awardees as well as the graduating students, calling on critical stakeholders in the state to support his free education policy.

He reiterated his government’s determination to reposition the educational sector by upgrading the standard of the system for better results.

Recognizing the unanimous decisions of the Senate and the subsequent approval of the Governing council and the Board of trustees for the award, Chief David Sabo Kente, a former Director Finance, National Assembly who responded on behalf of the recipients, thanked the management of the institution for finding them worthy for the recognition and assured the institution of their continued support to the growth and development of the institution.

Chief David Sabo Kente commended the institution’s management for their doggedness and commitment as well as the mutual understanding between the institution and the students, charging the graduating students to be a good ambassadors of the Kwararafa University wherever they may find themselves.

He called on sons and daughters of the Kwararafa Kingdom to support the institution which according to him is among some of the best universities in the country.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwararafa University, Wukari. Professor Shishi Zhema said the 2nd combined convocation is the combination of 8 classes of graduads of the university.

According to him, those awarded Honorary Doctorate Degrees were carefully selected and are men of proving integrity who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of human endeavours.

The Vice Chancellor said the institution has recorded great achievements some of which includes in numerical strength, accreditation of key courses by the National Universities Commission, NUC, introduction of post graduate programmes and construction of more structures to cater for the comfort of both staff and students.

A reception in honour of Chief David Sabo Kente was later held at Elim Top suites to celebrate his hard work, dedication and support to the educational sector which has received recognition by the Kwararafa University Wukari.

The reception had in attendance the Taraba State, Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, family members, friends and well wishers among others.

Traditional dances added colour to the ceremony.
