Kano NULGE Holds Delegates Conference

The Kano State Government has set aside a substantial amount of money to offset the arrears of pension and gratuities of State and Local Government retirees.


The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf announced this on Monday while declaring open the Kano State Delegates Conference of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdul Salam Gwarzo, the Governor admonished Local Government workers to always exhibit the spirit of discipline, punctuality and commitment for the benefit of the local communities.

In his speech, the President General of NULGE, Comrade Akeem Ambali Olatunji commended the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to the Local Government Councils.


He stressed that the judgement will bring positive development, stimulate Local economy and enhance service delivery.

The NULGE President General however appealed to the Kano State Government to expedite action on the implementation of the New Minimum Wage and to include the Union in the negotiation committee for the new wage.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Kano State Chapter President of the Union, Comrade Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo appreciated the existing cordial relationship between the Union and government.

He commended the Kano government for what he call pragmatic Leadership which has brought development in the state in all ramifications.

In his vote of thanks, the National Vice President General of NULGE Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, appreciated the Kano State Government for its workers friendly policies.


He also appealed to the Kano State Government to pay above 70 thousand naira Minimum Wage in view of the fact that the state has a viable internally revenue generation capacity.

There were goodwill messages from the Kano State Head of Civil Service, NLC, the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council and other relevant stakeholders.

The climax of the Conference was the election of new State Officials with Comrade Ibrahim Mohamed Shanono emerging as the new State President.

The President General of NULGE, Comrade Akeem Ambali Olatunji was accompanied to the Delegates Conference by a high powered officials of National Executive Council, comprising the National Vice President General North-east, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, National Treasurer Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara, National Young Workers Representative, Comrade Rufus Adeyemi Babalola, State President Delta, Comrade Okwudi Osita Ezeko , Secretary General, Comrade Gambo Isah and some Staff of the Union.
