IWA’s newly sworn-in PG, other officials assume duties 


Recognizes Kefas‘ good works in Taraba

The newly sworn-in President General (PG), Chinedu Agwu and other officials of the Taraba State chapter of the Igbo Welfare Association (IWA) have assumed duties.
PG, Chinedu Agwu and other executives are to pilot the affairs of IWA for the next three years after a keenly contested election where winners were emerged.

This was followed with the inaugural ceremony of those elected and a well coordinated handing/taking over from the immediate past executives led by former PG, Sir Tony Ekeson.
Other officials were; Vice President  – Godwin Akani, Secretary – Uche Okeagu, Assistant Secretary – Alphonsus Amadi, Treasurer – Anayo Nwakanma, Financial Secretary – Jacob Igbo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) – Comrade Ike Odowueze, Chief Provost – Emeka Nwoku, Chief Entertainment Officer – Cosmos Ozurumba.
Speaking in an interview with our Correspondent at the Conference Hall of Concord Hotel, ATC, Jalingo shortly, PG, Mazi Chinedu Agwu who hails from Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State and a renowned business man resident in Jalingo the State capital lauded the sportsmanship of members for finding him worthy to serve the Association in the capacity as PG.

He said his priority is to focus on the welfare, unity and security of IWA members in Taraba State.
“Igbo Welfare Association (IWA), as the name implies, the welfare of members will be my priority, I will also unite members of the association”,
“Issues that will affect the unity of members negatively would be tackled by my administration plus a thorough collaboration with the chairmen and executives of various local government areas that make up IWA” said the new PG.
He said former President Generals of IWA wouldn’t be left behind in his administration’s scheme of work saying their pieces of advice would be needed at any given time.
The contributions and support of the entire leading Council members are very much needed for him to succeed in his administration.
PG, Agwu further disclosed that IWA in Taraba State have recognized the good work Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas is doing for the people of the State adding  that Igbos in the State are beneficiaries of all his programmes and policies hence the need to support him succeed.
He also pleaded with the Governor to consider one or two IWA members in his cabinet and pledged to justify the gesture.
 President General however, called on all Igbos in the State to be law-abiding, not to involve themselves in criminal activities that will dampen their good image.
In a remark, the out-going President General IWA, Sir Tony Ekeson appreciated God for the grace of the gift of life that enabled him to serve the Association.
He also lauded the efforts of his executives, leading Council members who contributed immensely that led to their success of his tenure.
Sir Ekeson further told the gathering that the out-going officials were elected in June, 2021 who also assumed duty in July the same year, while the new officials were elected into office in June, 2024.
